A few weeks before the new measures against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic were taken, the Mitato of Amorgos completed clearing the section connecting the complex of Panagia Epanochoriani with the main path from Langada to Agios Ioannis Theologos (Route 5 on the path network of Amorgos).
This path was in a relatively good condition for hikers, however it presented difficulties to animals passing. Several producers are active in the area and the clearing has greatly facilitated their everyday transportation.
The total length cleared is 700 metres, on mild slopes. As the tourist season was still on, there was a lack of free time on behalf of volunteers. Moreover, the preventive measures against the pandemic didn’t allow for large groups on the spot. Therefore the clearing was realized in consecutive time frames, with small working groups present each time.
We are grateful to all the friends of the Mitato of Amorgos that took part, as well as everyone that supported us in any way. These works brought us closely together, in an active, optimistic start towards the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of our island.
We wish strength to all during these strange and difficult times we are experiencing. Stay safe and healthy!
