Dry stone workshop (26-31/10/2026)

Registration is open until 20 September 2026.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 4th Dry Stone Workshop “The Amorgian Craftsmanship”.

The educational programme is the continuation of our efforts for the preservation of the dry stone craft and structures on the island of Amorgos, enriched with the conclusions of the project “Allaximaria: Design and implementation of a standardised dry stone workshop”, which the Mitato of Amorgos realised in 2025, in collaboration with the Itinerant Workshop on Traditional Building Crafts “Boulouki” and the Cultural and Environmental Association of Tinos “Ambassada”.

The 4th Dry Stone Workshop “The Amorgian Craftsmanship” has been designed based on the programme and content of the above standardised model and we are pleased to invite you to participate in one of its two events:

    • The dry stone apprenticeship, addressed to craftsmen, students and any related professional who wishes to gain a deeper knowledge of the dry stone technique. Participants of the apprenticeship, taking place from 19 to 31 October 2026, will receive a daily wage, while their transportation, accommodation and boarding expenses will be covered. A limited number of apprentice places are available.
    • The dry stone workshop, open to anyone interested, taking place from 26 to 31 October 2026. The participation fee for the workshop is 350 € and it covers accommodation, boarding and part of the trainers’ and masons’ wages. Ferry travel costs are not covered but there will be discounts available to participants. A limited number of participant places are available.

      * Special rates apply for residents of Amorgos Island.

Both events will involve practical training on site, led by trainers and local masons, as well as theoretical classes. The practical training site is located at the path leading from Ormos Aegialis to Langada, at the location “Seladia”. The field works will involve restoration of dry stone walls and construction of cobble-stone path. The theoretical classes will focus on dry stone construction, as well as elements of geology, architecture, history and legal protection. Moreover, this year, for the first time, we will expand to the introduction to terrace farming and traditional seeds.

More details regarding the daily programme will be announced later.

The 4th Dry Stone Workshop “The Amorgian Craftsmanship” is realised with the support of Cyclades Preservation Fund – CPF and under the auspices of the Municipality of Amorgos.
